In the book” Words that Wound” written by Mari J. Matsudo. It strongly opposes racism and assaultive speech against racial minorities. It cites arguments and excerpts form other related topics abut the use of racism which have been defined by the authors as “ a way of American life” clearly this is true in the case of white males when viewed as the true superior color as other racial minorities are described as insignificant.
The authors themselves coming from different racial backgrounds have described the racial discriminations set forth by some Americans.The book also describes the vicious cycle of hatred and racial superiority that is passed on from the older generation to the new. Which, the authors believe to be of some significance to the rising incidence of racial discrimination in a lot of college campuses across America. This racial ideology has been present since the beginning of time, and its getting worse. The arguments presented in the book clearly give justice to the meaning of racial ideology. The mindset, that whites are a lot superior to the other races.Passed on to the new generations of racists, this may pose a more difficult problem than what is already expected.
Proposals have been passed to suppress the problem. But the authors believe that this may invoke some reactions in the first amendment which clearly states that: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” This is clearly stated in but recent proposals were passed to give defense to the oppressed, most particularly, minorities. This poses lots of questions in reaction to the first amendment. The authors described it as harming the relationships of civil liberties groups. If the restrictions of certain rights were invoked for the favor of these minorities, organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union, believed that these were the first amendment revisionists and most likely to give restrictions to some freedoms brought about by this move. The book also brings forward,2 Public issues brought about by certain questions about critical race theory and its impact on America’s society.
This theory, according to the authors is avowedly political. Their works in this book is to show the pragmatic point of view in addressing the problems of a racist-plagued society. The authors also pointed out that provisions in the first amendment also brought about the views of some scholars that restrictions cannot be imposed purely because they pose threats to first amendment liberties. That is not exactly the case according to the authors.
Oral defamations racial and sexists are not exempt from the first amendment. The book brings about discussions relevant to the first amendment and to the critical race theory. Strong arguments are presented in objection to free speech as an excuse to criticize or say anything against a certain race or a person of the minority. However in my point of view in some of the said arguments, very few were discussed along racial lines, other minority groups. Special attention was paid closely to African-American minorities. Which brings about the question that most favored or most discriminated are the blacks?In my view, minorities of all races are discriminated.
Blacks seem to be the most favorite topic of all probably because they are the most noticeable in an all white dominated society. An excerpt on page 10 shows this point. But don’t get me wrong, I believe that all minorities are fairly discriminated. It just shows in my view that most of the discriminations are coming towards blacks. In my experience this is true. The way they are discriminated also shows from the history of oppression and the long ideology of racial superiority come to.
Its how the mindset is formed and is still continued today and is getting worse. Owing to the fact that these discriminations were passed on, the arguments presented can only awaken but not necessarily stop these discriminations. The authors expressed these arguments in response to several provisions that they laid out in the critical race theory. An argument states that the discriminations are part of the American Life.
How can we as citizens be able to stop this if our lifestyles, laws, traditional values and form of government
