While listening to the country radio, one song caught my attention. What started off as another run of the mill country song morphed into something harmonious. It mesmerized me. At first listen I thought I was hearing Florida-Georgia Line; however, I discovered it was “What Ifs” by Kane Brown featuring Lauren Alaina. Anyone who admires a genuine country feel to a song should check out Brown’s work. Brown is a relatively new artist on the country scene having released his first single, “Don’t Go City on Me”, only three years ago; however, don’t let this fool you. His voice is exceptional, and he has the ability to reach lows which no one else can come close to. The pair is full of passion and create a unique melody which is unforgettable. Brown’s incredibly low voice combined with the higher vibrant pitch of Alaina created an amazing feeling, and after listening to their first piece together it would not be a surprise if they were to work together again down the road.In typical country fashion, Brown continually questions love and is found asking what if? First, as if he is afraid of the consequences which come to opening up to someone.”You say what if I hurt you, what if I leave you What if I find somebody else and I don’t need you. What if this goes south, what if I mess you up.”He then begins to ask himself the opposite. As if he realized these were not the right questions he should be asking himself.”What if I was made for you and you were made for me? What if this is it? What if this is meant to be?”Every person has dealt with this inner conflict before. This song runs deep because we can relate to the struggles Brown voices in his new single. What if I went out tonight? What if I met someone tonight? What if this person is the one? We all wonder what the answer to these questions might be, but the songs purpose is to ask us these questions. Because if we never ask the right questions, how will we ever find the answer we are looking for. In the end, just as Brown sings, love can answer all of our what ifs.
