Whenever I rest my chin on my hand and ponder, I can be anything. I can be Hermione Granger, fighting against Voldemort and saving my friend from evil. I can do anything with a magic wand and fly into the sky. I can drink potions to do anything I want. Such is the power of imagination; a process of thinking which provides us with anything we wish to have. And thus, imagination is a valuable asset indeed, even more, valuable than my knowledge.
First of all, Knowledge is made from imagination. Without the process, if imagination, knowledge cannot exist. For centuries, scholars have devoted their lives to discover certain facts. Some economists such as Adam Smith have devoted a tremendous amount of time to establish a theory ‘invisible hand’, and Thomas Edison, a well-known scientist has suffered through tremendous times of failure and invented the light bulb.
Thanks to these people, we now can know the basic principles of economics to make market a better place for people who are involved in the trade in the marketplace and are able to work and keep on our daily lives at night. However, could these knowledge and practical outcomes exist without imagination? Adam Smith started with a single doubt, ‘What drives the market to make equilibrium at the certain point?’ Without a process of thinking and imagining the outcome, he could not have developed a theory. What’s more, a word ‘invisible’ involves a process of imagination in itself. Edison cannot be an exception either.
Without imagination of a night with light, no light bulb could be made. Thanks to the imagination, humans could discover facts and establish theories to adjust to the real world. Thus, imagination is a most valuable asset which actually is the mother or knowledge. Without imagination, there is no knowledge. In addition, imagination takes a large portion of our process of thinking.
We use a lot of imagination when we behave in our daily lives. When we study, for example, when we read the description of cells (in biology),we can imagine the shape of cells. That way, we can not only understand the concept easier, but also can save time.
Furthermore, when drawing a picture, or doing sports like badminton, we can behave better and easier with imagination. We can fill out the paper with various drawings with imagination and guess the directions of badminton cock and move our body towards the right direction. Like this, imagination can be a big help through our daily lives and thus is valuable.Lastly, imagination makes us dream.
Being a high school student, my studies are big stress to me. Sometimes, I wouldn’t like to study anymore and I feel I am lost. Whenever I feel that way, I imagine. I imagine myself enjoying beautiful college days full of joy and dream. I imagine myself becoming a doctor and treating patients. After these processes of imagination, I can make myself study again. Imagination also makes us not commit the same mistake again, thus makes us become a better person. When I recall my mistakes of bygone days, I regret.
And I think ‘What if I did it this way.’ ‘What if I helped him that way??’ By these processes of imagination, I try not to commit same mistakes. Hence, imagination can make us dream and be a better person in the future.Imagine history or life without imagination. Without imagination, there is no Adam Smith with ‘invisible hand’ nor there a ‘light bulb’ by Edison. Like this, no knowledge or theory could be made without the help of imagination.
And there could have been no development for humans. Also, imagination keeps us to endure through our daily lives and is indispensable. Like this, everything started with imagination and everything is able with imagination. Therefore, imagination is a valuable asset, then knowledge.
