We live in a world where the population ofhumans or homo sapiens has reached 7 billion.
With the increasing number ofhumans on planet Earth, various environmental issues has hit a point where ifnecessary actions or steps are not taken, conditions may get worse in the nextcouple of years. Everything that we are facing today, global warming, pollution, climate change, acid rain and ozone depletion are the effects ofhuman activities that took place years and years ago. But can you imagine whatit will be like 50 years from now, if this condition worsens? The world, aplace we used to call home, will be something unthinkable, unimaginable. Willthe next generation even get the opportunity to live life like we do? Will theybe able to breathe normally? Will they be able to get a chance to look at allthe organisms that we have now? They certainly will, if and only if theimportant measures are taken today to save the planet.
Knowingly or unknowingly, human activitiesactually threaten the environment, the ecosystem and thus, threatens mankind. Many problems related to the environment are actually the effects of daily humanactivities such as open burning, cutting down of trees and improper disposal ofsewage. These are just the simple daily activities that are still practised bymany people today throughout the world despite knowing the danger that they arecausing the environment to deal with. The progress in the name of ‘development’has certainly done more harm than good.
The unplanned development and themismanagement of the ecosystems has caused us to pay a high price. Therefore, conflicts arise between the need to fulfil the human demands in a short-termand the need to protect and conserve our environment for the long run.So, in this project, “Human Impact on theEnvironment”, we will be discussing on the negative effects of human relatedactivities on the environment. We will be focusing on 6 major problems, namely, eutrophication, deforestation, global warming, ozone depletion, pollution andacid deposition. Of course, there are many other problems caused by us, humans, which have increasingly threaten the economic resources, health and survival ofecosystems. However, in this assignment, only the 6 stated problems above willbe discussed.
