Earned Mark Codification is one of the stages of standardization (Seargeant ; Swann, 2012). It can be defined as the means and methods which are used to standardize the language, such methods include language guides, dictionaries, grammar books, and the creation and usage of style. The 18th century is considered to be a critical era, or period in the codification of English, for it was the time of mass production of dictionaries, and grammar. For example, 1755, Samuel Johnson’s Monumental Dictionary, which in fact stood out from among all the other dictionaries. (Johnson & Lynch, 2003)
In Britain, the history of codification was traced all the way back to the 18th century. At the time, authors like John Walker and Thomas Sheridan were setting down the norms
