There are multiple causes of the water
scarcity crisis in the world. Water shortage is both a relative and dynamic
concept and can rapidly growing around the globe due to lack of sufficient
water resources. Water scarcity means not the availability of water but also
the quality of water and sanitation. This study examines the causes of water
shortages and suggests potential methods to manage these. The report finding
demonstrates that water shortage in the world may be appearing due to global
warming and inefficient irrigation. Findings also indicate that by using
renewable energy sources and efficient irrigation systems can significantly
diminish these causes. These findings illustrate that water government has to
measure the water footprints in order to supply and fulfils the demand of
consumers. Therefore, in order to decrease the world’s water shortages, this
report recommends that government has to promote the renewable energy sources
in the world and consumers must use the efficient irrigation systems to save
water effectively.

Water scarcity can be defined as lack of
sufficient water resources to meet the demand of water in the world. More
specifically, global warming and inefficient irrigation can increase the
shortage level of water in the world. In context, due to global warming the earth
temperature is increase which may leads to dry weather, as a result droughts in
the world. Furthermore, the identifications of these factors are necessary
because it may encounter other significant problems such as poor growth of
crops and insufficient water for consumption in the worldwide. The purpose of
this report is to examine the main causes of the world’s water shortages and
suggest possible ways to manage these. First and foremost, this report
illustrates the two major causes of water scarcity which are global warming and
inefficient irrigation. Next, the report suggests that renewable energy
resource is potential solution to global warming and inefficient irrigation
might be addressed through the efficient irrigation systems. Finally, this
report concludes by proposing recommendations which governments can adopt new
policies and systems in order to manage and diminish the circumstance of water
shortages around the world.

2.    Causes
of world’s water shortages

Two major causes of the world’s water
shortages are global warming and inefficient irrigation.  Water scarcity is occurs all over the world
and can seriously affect the environment.

Global warming

Water shortages in the world
can often occur through the global warming. It can be defined as changes in the
global or regional climate pattern as a result of increase the levels of
atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) which is produced during burning
fossil fuels. In other words, global warming is a phenomenon which result of
increases the average surface level of earth temperature by burning fossil
fuel, can result droughts and contamination in the world. All countries in the
world will be affected by water scarcity because global warming is happening
worldwide as a result the earth and water temperature rise so water shortage
problems is increase through the evaporation. Evaporation can be defined as
process in which water is change from liquid to gas or vapour. A case study
conducted by Curry (2010) states that ecological system constantly replace the
water supply system through its cycle of evaporation and  precipitation as a result over 18% of the
world’s, 6 billion people does not have access to safe clean freshwater. According
to Zakar, Zakar and Fischer (2012) global warming change the pattern and
availability of freshwater due to increase the earth temperature. Furthermore,
global warming reduced the storage capacity of water from glacier, snow cap
melting and subsequently decline the long term water availability Morrison et
al.(2009 p.6). For example, more than 1/6 of the world’s population there is
lack of fresh water including most regions of China (15%), India (20%) and
Pakistan (40%). In addition, a glacier is the significant source of freshwater,
but global rising temperature so glacial ice is melting at an unprecedented
rate. However, this cause has the probability to create other fundamentals
problems like decrease the quality of water, increase contamination and also
harm the infrastructure of deliver and transport water in the world. The above
evidence highlights the importance of identifying the effects of global warming
such as contamination and evaporation. In brief, global warming can cause water
shortages in world which in turn have critical impact on environment.
