There are many studies that relate classical music and a baby’s intelligence. As all pregnant woman and current mothers want their children to be the smartest kid in class, they correlate classical music in the development of their babies to increase their intelligence. Parents naturally want the best for their babies, so any natural environmental ideas that will help increase their babies intelligence will be put to use.

The developmental outcome of this study found by listening to classical music your baby can possibly be as smart as Einstein, well that perhaps a little promising but what is true is that the highs and lows of the classical music sounds are what triggers a babies’ brain to grow because it stimulates areas in the brain responsible for motor actions, emotions, and creativity.    In 1993, a short paper was published on the “Mozart Effect” study. According to the article 36, college students participated in the study.

The outcome of the study revealed that students who listened to Mozart sonata for a few minutes before taking a test scored higher than those who did not listen to classical music or any other music. Although the study does say that the effect may be temporary, I believe that if the students continue to listen to classical music, the effect can become permanent. This study was controversial, as well as any studies on this topic. There are a lot of scientists that do not agree with these studies because they need more proof that this can be real. I disagree because multiple studies have come up with same results.    After this study was done, the media and politicians responded saying that listening to classical music or any type of music offered several benefits to the developing baby.

Music has been related to stress relief and has helped alleviate physical and mental health problems. Music is universal, I see all the time that Spanish music like meringue, salsa, and bachata are being heard all over the world. A lot of companies still market classical music to parents of children; they do believe in the studies conducted by universities. Most of the companies that provide this music for the parents of children are very successful and encourage the parents to purchase the classical music because they have studies that show the greater intelligence to those who listen to it.     Music has been around for centuries to soothe one’s mind or to arouse energy in the brain and body, which triggers the person to dance, which causes sweat and the release of endorphins. Endorphins are good for the brain and the body. I say it’s what keeps us happy.

So, what can we say about classical music for babies? Yes, it can help develop the brain and can make babies smarter or more cognitive. I believe the study on college students shows that college students may do better on a quiz after listening to Mozart sonata but does not prove that classical music makes babies smarter. Now there is some classical music that perhaps not appropriate for babies because is probably too loud and violent. Some parents have a difficult time picking songs for their children, because of the different classical music there is. There are many companies that take the role of producing CD’s or uploading on YouTube the appropriate classical music for babies.    Unlike many types of music, classical tunes have a calming effect on the human mind and body. According to the article written by newkidscenter.

com, the structure and slow tunes relax the mind and body and even the heart, this can help babies sleep and improve their mental health. Babies that have a hard time sleeping can benefit from music. Those that have suffered emotional trauma can also benefit from the soothing sounds of music. There is also the same article states a strong correlation between music and language development. Young children that listen to classical music might learn to talk and read faster. This is because the areas of the brain that are being stimulated by the music are developing much sooner than those who do not listen to classical music. As a result babies and children may also develop better memories and listening skills, which are significant to learning the language.

I am interested in learning more about this topic and how more studies can be done to correlate the findings of the earlier studies. I am not a mother yet, but as a future mother, having this knowledge about the topic will be beneficial, I do plan on applying the “Mozart Effect” on my children rather or not it makes babies smarter it is good to introduce early on the classical music of Mozart who was a great composer. This topic will always be controversial because there are not enough scientific studies for it and most people need those scientific statistics to really believe something. Rather or not these studies help parents or future parents with the developing of their baby’s brain, I can say that music does have stimulation to the brain rather it is sad songs that can make us cry or rock and roll that can make us dance it is all a positive effect.
