2 and also based on the results of my previous workplace experiences clearly demonstrates that my approach towards leadership is participative which can also be defined as democratic approach towards leadership where a leader involves all of the team to identify goals and objectives and also in the development of strategies in order to achieve those goals and objectives. It became very clear from the exercises, quizzes and also from my previous workplace experiences that every approach towards leadership has its advantages as well as disadvantages. Therefore participative leadership comes with some pros as well as some cons. Some of the pros of my leadership approach are that it increases group morale, employee retention, productivity, leads to innovative thinking. There are some cons to it as it can be a very long process especially if there are plenty of people involved in decision making process, another weakness is sub-ordinates may feel estranged if their thoughts are not accepted, they may feel frustrated. The leadership grip and situational leadership allows a leader to choose a leadership approach that will work well based on the situation and also based on sub-ordinates within an organisation.
A leader can therefore adapt to within the needs of an organisational situation. Therefore for me a combination of both the above mentioned approaches would work well, as from my perspective I can clearly set goals for my team, can have high expectations from them, I can encourage my sub-ordinates by providing them support, inspiring them to go beyond their self-interests etc. As I can be people oriented at some point and then at some point can be result oriented.
