The Bible contains many passages that seem immoral to follow. For example, Exodus 21:20-21, Leviticus 25:44-46, Ephesians 6-5 and Titus 2:9-10 all endorse slavery. I Corinthians 14:34 commands women to stay silent in church. Deuteronomy 22:23-24 states that when a women is raped, both her AND the rapist should be stoned to death.

Why do we no longer follow these commands? And more important, what does this tell us about the relationship between religion and morality? Explain. (complete after reading 5.1) The relationship between religion and morality are linked in my opinion that the principles of religion is dependent on our view of morality and not vice versa. Throughout my view it should be apparent that, morality reinforces the development and evolution of our religious views of how we should live. According to chapter 5 as it speaks about the role of morality; the theory of a morality implies that we don’t do these things –if it implies that we don’t make moral judgments, get into the moral disputes, or act immorality –there reason to believe that its mistaken.” This passage implies to me that when it comes to religion we have to use our moral compass to determine right from wrong. A way to construe ethics as depending on religion would be on the basis of a ‘Divine Command Theory’ of ethics, identifying the moral good with “God’s Will” or with what God commands.

So then, if one were to link doing good as essentially doing God’s will, does this mean that one must always obey God’s will even though it may not seem to be a good act to us? No, knowing that the examples are a far stretch from the “Old Testament” of the bible, we would morally think sacrifice cattle, rape, slavery and other pre Jesus Christ rituals.
