A Tardigrade are little creatures which are able to withstand multiple natural disasters or human made disasters such as nuclear blast and even outer space. The characteristics that make this creature indestructible is its size, physical appearance, and much more.

Tardigrades are microscopic organisms that appear to be a caterpillar or a little piglet at first glance. These organisms measure up to about 1 mm which is the equivalent to 0.04 of an inch. These creatures have four pairs of legs which turns inwards with claws at the end of each leg. Tardigrades have five body sections which each serve a purpose. Its mouth serves many purposes such as its mouth being armed with stylets which pierce plant cells or even small invertebrates.
The Tardigrades produce asexually in a process called Parthenogenesis in which the female lays her eggs which is about 30 with no need of fertilization and also a can reproduce sexually by the female laying her eggs and letting the male fertilize the eggs.
Tardigrades also known as “The Water Bear” and the “Moss Piglet” are closely related to arthropods. This organism belongs to the kingdom Animalia, subkingdom Bilateria, infrakingdom Protostomia, superphylum Ecdysozoa, and lastly the phylum Tardigrata.
Tardigrades were first discovered in 1773 by a German priest named Johann August Geoze. Three years in advance scientist Lazzaro Spallanzani took to notice that these creatures have a truly amazing characteristic which basically made them invulnerable. Later Spallanzani added water to some sediment and added the solution under a microscope, to his amazement he saw hundreds of little piglet like creatures floating around. He later went on to write a book “Opuscoli Di Fisica Animale, E Vegetabile” which translates over to “Slow Stepper.”
Tardigrades could live just about any place you could think of, But most preferably choose to habit in sediment areas. These creatures can withstand multiple environments such as an environment as could as negative 328 degrees Fahrenheit or even as high as 300 degrees Fahrenheit.
The thing that makes this little creature unique are its ways in which it is able to survive radiation, boiling point liquids, and lastly they can survive with bone crushing pressure with the equivalent to the bottom of the ocean pressure times 6. Researchers concluded that these creatures would long outlive the human race as a whole. When these creatures need to survive they head to a death like state also known as Cryptobiosis, usually they curl up like a ball by retracting their legs and arms to be tucked within the body, once the body comes to contact with water it returns to its normal state. During the Cryptobiosis their metabolism lowers to a 0.01 percent of normal levels. Their inner organs are coated and protected by a sugar like gel which is called Trehalose or an Antioxidants which may be used for protecting inner organs. In order for these creatures to be protected from radiation they produce these proteins that serve as proteins for other proteins in their body which protects their DNA from any sort of damage. If exposed to the cold they form a special Tun that protects it from any sort of ice crystal growing. Anhydrobiosis which in Greek translates over to “life without water”is a behavior when they lack in water
