Approximately 20,500 (44%) of them are under the age of 25 years, while 55% of those unemployed are single. 10,000 (21%) never reached the Certificate of Primary Education (CPE), while 12,300 (26%) have no School Certificate in pocket. 13,100 (28%) of those unemployed looking for a job for over a year, while 16,500 (35%) are looking for a job for the first time. Other Data: 4600 (10%) of the registered unemployed are father or mother, while 5300 (11%) live in households where nobody is employed.

Statistics Mauritius also delivers its forecast for the full year 2012.

Thus, 3,000 jobs will be created this year. The number of employees will increase from 536,700 in 2011 to 539,700 in 2012. As for unemployment, it will amount to 8% in 2012 against 7.9% in 2011. With the crisis still dominate the news in 2013, unemployment is not going to fall anytime soon!

398,400 Mauritians economically inactive

The number of people aged 16 and over are not part of the active population is estimated at 398,400 during the third quarter of 2012. The economically inactive population consists of 114,900 men and 283,500 women. Inactive males, 43% are retired or elderly and 37% are students. Women, 55% were housewives and 16% of students.
