One of the most impressive things about the Southwest Airlines is the admiration I have for Herb Kelleher and the way he creates history for the company when absolutely everyone was against him and his ideas and his spirit did shape the organizational culture and performance of the company. The other thing that impresses me is the fact that SWA managed to make so many profits and become one of the richest company.
The fact that the company made so much profit using a very low type of strategy amazes me. More ever the SWA human resource management and the company’s spirit were the key elements that led to the success of the company.it is really exciting that a customer-driven business dedicated to sales has one of its principles which says, ” the employees come first and the customers come second.” And to me, this keeps both the employees and customers happy and in turn, the relationship ensures high sales throughout thus projecting high profits.
In my opinion, the SWA management did a remarkable job in finding the strategy used in the running of the company. At the start, Herb Kelleher did see a market opportunity and tried so hard to keep the company going. His behavior and spirit and the performance he put saw the strong setting of the pillars of the Southwest. We see since the beginning Herb did establish the mission and the vision of southwest and its objectives.
Also, the personnel hired by Herb are very talented people with great experience in the sector who Managed to run the company despite its high calling of utmost risk in case of a mistake. My opinion still stands that southwest airlines have got excellent strategies where many of them actually do fit in the competitive conditions in the company and has got extremely important capabilities and resources. The reduction of costs which were carried out by the company posed a threat to other competitors thus experienced an excellent financial performance.
The SWA culture literally entails the outlaying the importance and emphasis on the employees overall welfare and from having its one of the principles “employees first and customer second”, southwest airlines maintain the culture through the maintainer of the fun atmosphere and the work environment which is promoted by entertaining behaviors in the performance of their jobs and also the frequent company sponsored parties and celebrations.
There is also the culture of not giving up which was developed through all the adversities that the company had to face. The company also used to empower employees and this, in turn, motivates them highly and making them feel as a major important part of the company. Thus I can clearly say that Southwest Airline Company is one of the strongest culture company and the best treatment of employees makes them feel like a family rather than uncared workers
In my opinion, if Herb stopped associating himself with the company, it will still continue performing if the coming to take over follow and keep the company so as it is, feeding company’s culture and the good environment and above all trying to keep their low- cost strategy running through the whole company.
Finally, I can say that the competitive advantage of the company cannot be imitated since the company has well-placed strategies and it’s a culture followed company that is so unique in its own way thus cannot be imitated.
