so within Jamaica and the Caribbean. In order to enhance implementation adoption
and realize the benefits by the industry, initiatives from the government, AEC professional
bodies and main local construction firms are required to be a part of the
change. The region (Jamaica and the Caribbean) can and would do very well in
the construction industry if they should take the initiative and improve the
sector and take it from its current level to the heights of the industry
worldwide. There are some suggestions made by some knowledgeable veterans in
the construction industry. It is said that the identification of clear benefits
of the application of visualization techniques would benefit the region’s
industry. Due to the lack of industrial applications that have clearly
justified and encouraged the application of 4D techniques. Several authors are
currently conducting researches to quantify the benefits of using 4D on construction
projects, all funded by a company who is developing and utilizing 4D in
construction projects on a consulting basis.. Another is the constant push from
the clients. The clients play a very large role in the direction and goals of
any given industry and the construction industry is no exception. The industry
should include visual planning techniques and tools as a vital part of the
construction project contract so that both the clients and construction
companies will be in a “Win-Win” situation as this minimizes wastes during the
construction process. Also, based on the growing need for technology, adequate
training on the application of 3D and 4D would be essential. The use of 3D and
4D models in the initial technological development brief is growing.  Major software such as SketchUpTM
(www.sketchup.com), RevitTM (Autodesk, Inc) are helpful to Architects and
Designers as they start developing models in 3D, 4D and generating 2D drawings
directly from the CAD applications as used in the aerospace and manufacturing
sectors. On the other hand, there are some downsides and limitations to these
recommended usage as there are issues with compatibility as there are
significant problems with the compatibility across the CAD software used in the
construction industry. A few initiatives like Industry Foundation Classes
(IFC’s) should be encouraged so that approximately 800 CAD models can be
exchanged easily without losing accuracy and reliability of CAD models during
the conversion processes. And the other limitation is the growing cost for the
technology. As the technology becomes more and more advanced and demanding, the
current cost of 3D and 4D techniques are high compared with other project management
software. However, the commercial development of 3D and 4D software application
is growing and there is a need to develop best practice examples. More so,
there are some practical implications of visualization technologies in the
industry is that as technology implementation ultimately consists of changes in
practices being made, the fundamental issues regarding technology
implementation strategies are well aligned with those of change management. As
a result, it is vital that human behavioral and emotional issues are addressed
if successful technology implementation is to be achieved.
