Racism Through its use of repetition, vulgar and

Racism is the belief that one race is
superior over the other. It is what leads to discrimination and prejudice because
it is fabricated upon the notion
that people of different races should be treated differently due to their inherent
characteristics or capacities. This leads to social hierarchies as races determine
themselves inferior or superior against others. In
Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche’s novel Americanah, Ifemelu, the
protagonist and a successful online blogger, uses her blog to turn racism on its head. She
does so by addressing the stereotypes and cants against black people as well as
establishing similar judgments about white people, that they are not the only
race to be ridiculed, judged, and objectified. Many of Ifemelu’s blogs are
aimed towards white people, telling them that they have white privilege so they
should not discuss racism, and that their problems are not relatable to the problems
Black people have. She
uses her blogs to defend the black people by giving them a voice in the matter.

One such post reads “Friendly Tips for the American Non-Black: How to React to
an American Black Talking About Blackness.”. Through its use of
repetition, vulgar and authoritative voice, and rhetorical question, this blog
is the most passionate blog among the blogs Ifemelu writes.
