President Trump is supporting a path to citizenship for up to 1.8 million “dreamers” is the United States. Who are the Dreamer they are recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals also known as DACA. DACA was first introduced in 2012 by President Barack Obama in order to protect people that were brought to the US as children from being deported.
One of the major set back to the DACA is that it is only a temporary and must be renewed every 2 years. Participating in DACA are not only protected from being deported but gain a range of benefits like the ability to work and obtained health insurance. Thanks to DACA dreamer are able to work and pursuit higher education and in some state allowed to drive, something we all take for granted. However, in September 5 2017, Donald Trump the President of the United States (It hurt me inside writing that) decide to end DACA leaving 800,000 some young adults brought to the United State illegally as kids eligible for deportation. After removing DACA dreamer and concern Americans began to protests.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO and Co-Founder of Facebook wrote on his personal page that “This is a sad day for our country…
It is particularly cruel to offer young people the American dream, encourage them to come out of the shadows and trust our government, and then punish them for it.” Even though DACA is importation I believe that removing it was a smart move on the behave of the President however step should have been made to replace in order find a more permanent replacement. DACA is only a temporary plan that will help dreamer for two years and after those two-year dreamers have to worry if Congress will approve DACA for another 2 years.
A simple solution to is to make the illegal immigrant legal it is easier said than done. On January 25 news of President Trump proposing an exchange for citizenship for a harder step to increase border security. Although the purpose undermines key Democrats Trump supported the ideas. Other option Congress can replace/renew/edit DACA is to have dreamer to have restricted citizenship basically training wheels for immigrants and after a set time benefits will be rewarded until full citizenship is available. Restricted citizenship will begin with the right to work/ attend school then progress to being able to drive/obtain medical care and finally being able to vote after (full citizenship).
Thought out the process Dreamer must be model citizenship meaning obtaining the law and paying taxes. Dreamer is not a new topic but I believe that they belong in America and America was born from immigrants
