Josef Mengele, also known as Dr. Mengele wasn’t particularly a good minded doctor, I’m saying this because he was a good doctor. But the things he did were downright awful.
Mengele was born on March 16, 1911. He was born with no sibling but then had 2 more. His parents were Karl and Walburga Mengele. Dr. Mengele as a kid was very popular and smart. In 1937, he joined the nazi party, then in 1938 he joined the ss, then got wounded and was pronounced unfit for duty. He soon volunteered to go to a camp, he was sent to Auschwitz, know as a death camp.
Soon after he was named the angel of death. He was a chief for the cemetery and gas chambers. He was so popular with Hitler , Mengele got to choose who lived, this short phrase still scares survivors today, death to the left life to the right. Hundreds of thousands of people sent to the left in the matter of 21 months.
During one selection Josef saw twins. He right then right there wanted to take blood. There are accounts of him killing twins just by taking blood. He once had 14 pair of twins, all of them gypsy, and put the in a certain way and order on his table, put them all to sleep. Then shot chloroform in there hearts killing all 14 pairs/28 people instantly. There is a twin that recalls his twin disappearing one night then being killed.
“Dr. Mengele had always been more interested in Tibi. I am not sure why – perhaps because he was the older twin.
Mengele made several operations on Tibi. One surgery on his spine left my brother paralyzed. He could not walk anymore.
Then they took out his sexual organs. After the fourth operation, I did not see Tibi anymore. I cannot tell you how I felt. It is impossible to put into words how I felt. They had taken away my father, my mother, my two older brothers – and now, my twin”…. We will never know the full extent to his experiments. But we have some knowledge of some of them from survivors.
Some survivors remember organs being taken out of there twin, deadly diseases being injected into their arm. The survivors today are lucky to be alive. There are barely any twins that made it out after their sibling died, because if one died they would just murdered the other. After everything Josef Mengele fled. He never got caught.
