INTRODUCTIONWith war raging in many parts of the world, and with countries engaging on economic reconstruction, we must reflect about the dismal record of such countries in both avoiding a relapse into chaos and in becoming aid-dependent.
According to the UN, the word ‘economic reconstruction’ refers to cover the war destruction and this not only includes the rehabilitation or creation of basic services and infrastructure destroyed during the war, but also the modernization or creation of a basic macroeconomic and microeconomic institutional and policy framework necessary to create a viable economy. MEXICO AND THE ECOSOCSince the start, Mexico has been participating actively in many social and economic activities of UN’s various specialized agencies and other international organizations connected with social, cultural, and economic improvement. The country was formally admitted into the ECOSOC organization on 7th of November 1945. Mexico has consistently remained neutral in international conflicts. In the recent years, the need of ameliorating the UNSC and its working methods has been widely impulse by Mexico, and with the support of Canada, Italy, and other nine countries this was possible.ECONOMIC CONDITION OF MEXICOThe United Mexican States economy is the 15th largest in the world and the 11th largest by purchasing power parity (PPP), according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). In 2017, Mexico (1.4%) financially contributed to the UN peacekeeping operations budget.
Mexico is the 10th largest contributor in the world to the United Nations (UN) regular budgets. Mexico being an export-oriented economy, more than 90% of Mexican trade is under free trade agreements (FTAs). It is also an open-economy, because of which the value of trade in goods and services accounts for 64% of GDP of the country. The quality of macroeconomic management in Mexico along with capable management has led to economic and financial stability in the recent years.
Tax reforms have improved governments collections and helped in the economic stability and the GDP. Mexico may stand out as an interesting inclusion. The country is currently not engaged in any formal war or civil war.MEXICO’S POLICIES ON RECONSTRUCTIONMany political parties have recommended an amendment of the Constitution in order to allow the Mexican army, Air Force and the Navy to collaborate with the UN in peacekeeping missions. Mexico’s resolution to the current situation is Promoting Development, Alleviating Rural Poverty, Supporting Industry, Improving Global Trade, Promoting Economic Reform etc. Through these resolutions, organizations, and NGO partners, the UN and the Member States can work to reconstruct the economies in such war-torn countries. CONCLUSIONThe United Mexican States strongly believes that international bodies and committees like the United Nations Economic and Social Council should foster in reconstructing the economy of the war torn country. This can only be done with the help of neighboring countries and the World Bank and try to uplift their economy.
It is very important for war torn country to rebuild its economy in such crisis as soon as possible as it can have adverse effects later. The Mexican government is and will always be ready to help such countries in anyway within our limit and foreign policy.
