In university, high school and college, examination is seen as a formal test of student’s knowledge on what they have learnt so far. This phenomenon has become normalized among students (McCabe, Butterfield, ; Treviño, 2012) To achieve a good results, some students spend all the time study in the library.
However, student who wants to gain an advantage in examination, so they would choose dishonest method to get over the exam, and it led to dire consequences of academic penalty; another is cheating makes student lose the respectful from friends and teacher and of course, it also affects to their future career. It is the position of this paper that cheating is illegal, this phenomenon should be excluded from education, or else students will be ban from coming to school as a period, this is an example of a suspension. Moreover, it negatively affects to reputations and student’s career development.
Nowadays, many students don’t see cheating is wrong and they keep repeat it many times, once they start, it is really hard to stop. According to research that cheating in college including to plagiarism, some students do not know what it is nor unacceptable in academic (Blum, 2009) .The worst consequence they would face when they got caught such as lowest mark as a standard punishment. But different teacher, different ways of solving problem, some put a strictly punishment on students. Besides that, others just give a warning, the problem came with this issue is that doesn’t make student feel repentant, of course they never lean any lesson even cheat more. Even though they know cheating is wrong but they still do it (Davis, Grover, Becker, & McGregor, 1992). Also, the reported from students considered that cheating is acceptable due to fully understanding of the limited effect of their actions (Galloway, 2012). Students who lack of studies and tend to be skipped classes are likely cheat in most of exam.
So that, cheating is the method for them to pass all the academics, although they will get good grade as they want, but as a result, they earn nothing in their knowledge. Furthermore, one of the negative consequence that might affect to their reputation including relationships.Cheating is taking friends and abilities away. To do well in exam, everyone needs to put a lot of effort on study, work hard on their studies, do their own work.
But their works was stolen by someone else, it’s totally unfair. For example: a various ways of cheating someone’s work including copy another student’s works, or having someone do their work or exam(Franklyn-Stokes ; Newstead, 1995). Cheater will lose their friendships, faith from teachers , family. Particularly, they could lose the respect from friend and teachers. In addition, they couldn’t get good references or recommendation from teacher for college or job application. For further consequence, the bad permanent record inhibits their chances get into good college or position of jobs.
Cheating effects to student’s career future because they cannot succeed in any job if they did not study what they supposed to learn during college time and put it in real life. College is where student prepare for what they are going to perform their job in the future. They would understand that having knowledge more important than good grades and nothing easy in real life and the they will realize that they have wasted time on cheating through the way school and get nothing after all. For instance: every career is requires employees to show level of their knowledge then employer based on that to consider how well they perform it. They might get a good job nor good position, salary, but they might not keep that job long even harm to other people, doctor or lawyer as an example. There for, it is better to be honest right at the college, because employers always looking for people who has quantities, good ethics. there are no benefits from cheating, it might helpful in short term but it make people getting lazy and unconfident.(McCabe, Trevino, ; Butterfield, 2001) reported that factors influences cheater including pressure from parents, job, laziness as well as lack of manage the time.
On the other hand, be honest, set up a goal and take responsibility, things go brighter. There for, it is important for management of school or college to set up academic cheating policies probably to develop and improve student’s ethical skills as encourage student being honest in study (McCabe et al., 2012).It is the position of this paper that cheating is illegal, this phenomenon should be excluded from education, or else students will be ban from coming to school as a period, this is an example of a suspension.
Moreover, it negatively affects to reputations and student’s career development. Instead of using academic dishonest way to pass the exam, students should find better method to get through exams or studies without negative effecting to their reputation as well as their future career.
