Imagine stake of holly through his heart.

Imagine walking alone down an endlesspathway, with only pain and emotional suffering as you continue the search for happiness and comfort that you hope to find with others. The ChristmasCarol written by Charles Dicken, tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a guy who hateseverything to do with Christmas when three ghostscome and visit him and show him clips ofhis past life, present life, and his future life. The essay I’m writing is to let you know how Scroogephysical appearance speaks volumes onwhat type of person he is, challenges he facesin his childhood created him to be angry in his adulthood, and how he learnedto love Christmas.

Hard and sharp as flint, from which no steel had ever struck out generousfire; secret, and self-contained, and solitary as an oyster. The cold withinhim froze his old features, nipped his pointed nose, shriveled his cheek, stiffened his gait; made his eyes red, his thin lips blue; and spoke outshrewdly in his grating voice. A frosty rime was on his head, and on his eyebrows, and his wiry chin. He carried his lowtemperature always about with him. (1.7) Scrooge physical appearance applies that he’s cold which reveal that he’s lonely.

Scrooge stays alone in a bigbuilding that isn’t housing, rarely eat, and he communicateswith only a few people. If no oneknows you existare you living, that represents Scrooge’slife. He’s dead.

When the body begins to  freeze to the death, it begin to  turns blue, which in Stanza one its say “his thin lips blue.”…… “What else can Ibe,” returned the uncle, “when I live in such a world of fools as this? MerryChristmas! Out upon merry Christmas! What ‘s Christmastime to you but a time for paying bills without money; a time for findingyourself a year older, but not an hour richer; a time for balancing your booksand having every item in ’em through round dozens of months presents deadly against you? If I could work my will,” saidScrooge indignantly, “every idiot who goes about with ‘Merry Christmas’ on hislips, should be boiled with his pudding, and buried with a stake of hollythrough his heart. He should!” () The Christmas season is the time spent withfamily and friends enjoying the holiday by putting a Christmas Tree, putting up lights outside the house, having ugly Christmas sweater parties, and creating gingerbread houses. Allthose activities require a team. When trapped in a cold area with no access to heat, most people bundle with other bodiesto create body heat. Since Scrooge does nothave anybody he can group within the cold, he’s angry, and he has everyright to be mad because no one is happywhen there freezing. That’s one of the reasons why Scrooge has antipathy toward theholidays because putting up a ChristmasTree cannot be done.

People’s background inevitably influences their personalityand personal development. Ebenezer Scrooge had a challenging upbringing which significantly affectshis adult life. You can infer that his mother isdead because she is not mentioned.

His father was cruel; he grew up in poverty.Scrooge had been sent away to boarding school, he didn’t have friends exceptfor the fantasy books he read, and he spent a couple of Christmas’ alonebecause all the other children in boarding school went home to their familiesfor Christmas, “The school is not quite deserted”, said the Ghost of ChristmasPast .”A solitary child, neglected by his friends, is left there still.”Scrooge said he knew it.And he snubbed”.

() Even though he was young and hewas experiencing a lot he did not letthat affect him, he still was open to givingpeople a chance. Scrooge finally found love in girl name Bella, but she eventually had left him because he cared more about money than her. “This is the even-handeddealing of the world. There is nothing onwhich it is so hard as poverty, and there is nothing it professes to condemnwith such severity as the pursuit of wealth!” () Growing up poverty made him become in love withmoney because he does not ever want toexperience being without again. Since Ebenezer life has practically been goingdownhill his entire life; he treatspeople how he was a treat. Hurt people, hurt people because they have experience getting hurt. Moreover, each one of us hasbeen hurt to one degree or another.

As that damage causes us to become defensiveand self-protective, we may lash out at others. Hurting becomes a viciouscycle. At the beginning of Stave Three, Scrooge hasalready begun to change his hurt people hurt people attitude and started torealized that he’s pushing himself awayfrom the very thing he wants and that company. In Stave One, Scrooge says tothe two portly gentlemen “are there no prison? Andthe union workhouses?” (Stave 1: 50-51) …….Scrooge in The Christmas Carol did not hateChristmas he just hated the idea of being alone on Christmas. So, since he did not have anybody to spend it went he despised anyone who had a family to enjoy the holiday.Described as a cold man “the cold in himfroze his features” the cold symbolize him being lonely while warmth symbolizespeople.

Scrooge childhood created hislove for money since he grew up in poverty,he feared going back, so he invested timein his career. Which led his fiancé Bella to leave, because she did not like whom he wasbecoming. Which contributed to him hurtingothers, that’s how he expressed his frustrating to himself. However, didchange from that hatred, angry, andselfish when the three ghost came and showed clips from his life. How other people had issues of their own,but that didnot stop them from celebrating the holiday like Bill C and his son TinyTim.
