Good evening listeners, and welcome back to Sunday book live 96.05 FM. My name is Loko Dadi and I will be joining you for next the 15 minutes. If you are new I would like to thank you for joining us today. Just before we start we would appreciate it if everyone voted for us to win the “Brisbane best radio station” title. Now let’s begin.
On today’s program we will continue with the discussion of the themes of oppression and fight for freedom, which are documented in the media mainly in novels. Not only is it documented but it also shows how it is affecting the modem society through different types of oppression.
The novel that will be discussed on today show is called Jasper Jones. It was written by Craig Silvey and was published in 2009. The book is basically about the life of Charlie Bucktin who is a bookish 14-year-old, changes irrevocably the night Jasper Jones shows him the dead body of Laura Wishart. In the summer holidays of 1969, Charlie sets out to find her killer. There are definitely types of oppression encountered throughout this novel and you may start to notice some similarities and differences between Jasper Jones and the text we discussed on our last show The Test by Angelica Gibbs.
