Global Citizen – Morgan FreemanMorgan Freeman, who is Morgan Freeman. At this point of time, who doesn’t know who Morgan Freeman is? But, I will make a quick introduction for uneducated. Not only is he an award winning actor, with recognized awards such as an Oscar, AFI Life Achievement Award, Golden Globe award, etc. He has made an great impact, with is exceptional movies, such as “The Shawshank Redemption”, one of the greatest movies of all time, “The dark knight” trilogy etc. However, these are mainly achievements and material objects, I’m going to convince you, why he should win the Global Citizen Award. Morgan Freeman was born June 1st 1937 in Memphis, Tennessee. As a kid, Morgan Freeman enjoyed watching movies and admired many actors. His family was poor, but, Morgan Freeman would scrape some money together in order to go to the cinema. Although he did like to watch movies, he never considered himself to become an actor, until junior high school where he as punishment for pulling out a chair from underneath a girl he had a crush on, Morgan Freeman was ordered to participate in the school’s drama competition. To his surprise, and probably school administrators, the 12-year-old proved to be an immediate natural on the stage, taking top honors in the program. This is where it all began, from an movies fan, to the greatest teenage school plays actor. “I joined the Air Force. I took to it immediately when I arrived there. I did three years, eight months, and ten days in all, but it took me a year and a half to get disabused of my romantic notions about it.” Believe it or not, Morgan Freeman did military service to keep America safe. He had hoped to become a fighter pilot, but was instead assigned to mechanic and radar technician duties. That’s more than can be said about a number of more “patriotic”.”I am going to stop calling you a white man and I’m going to ask you to stop calling me a black man.” Morgan Freeman is also a supporter of civil rights and same-sex marriage. Some might be thrown by the news of his criticism of Black History Month, but he makes a decent point: “You’re going to relegate my history to a month? “I don’t want a black history month. Black history is American history.” As for civil rights, Morgan Freeman has done commercials for same-sex equality and has even helped raise money for the American Foundation for Equal Rights.
