9/25/2018Topic: The Attacks of 9/11.

Specific Purpose: To give detailed information about that incident to the audience and how America reacted to that situation.

Thesis: Tuesday, September 11, 2001, was the day that started like any other day. Businessmen and women prepared themselves for work, school children prepared them for another exciting day. But before they can start off their day, a tragic incident occurred that killed thousands of innocent Americans and breaking the hearts of many. September 11 is still remembered as a horrific event in the history of the United States.
Attention Getter: How many of you still remember the attacks of 9/11? Many of us were around the age of 2 to 3, when this incident happened and certainly didn’t have any clue of what’s going on; but were sure that something was just not good. Well, the instinct was right, as it was certainly a horrifying day in the history of the United States.

Relevance Statement: Everyone has little knowledge of this attack and its consequences or even someone might have witnessed or been a victim of it too.
Thesis statement: On the morning of September 11, 2001; 19 young men from the Al- Qaeda group, hijacked four US Airliners on domestic flights. This was the strategic planning of the terrorist group Al – Qaeda who aimed to carry out suicide attacks on important targets in the United States. This incident took lives of almost 3000 innocent Americans which eventually gave birth to a war against terrorism and brought about everyday social changes for the Americans.
Credibility Statement: Although comprehensive and classified information is certainly not available; but an extensive research and use of trustworthy resources have helped me collect and analyze the information.

Main Points:
On the day of September 11, 2001; 19 terrorists from the Al-Qaeda group hijacked 4 US Airliners to carry out suicide attacks on the important targets of the United States. Of the four planes that were hijacked, one of them crashed in the fields of Shanksville, Pennsylvania, the second one struck the Pentagon; and the remaining two were flown into the Twin Towers in the New York city, claiming thousands of lives.
According to the New York Times, the flights that were hijacked included AA Flight 11, AA flight 77, UA Flight 175 and UA Flight 93.

Transition and Subpoint 1:
Although these attacks were a sign of cruelty and evil; the nation stood strong even after such a big loss.

American Airlines flight AA 11, which was intended to leave for Los Angeles, California; from Boston, Massachusetts, was the first plane to hit the target set by the terrorists.
The hijackers killed 1 passenger and 3 others were severely injured when they tried to hijack the airplane. The plane carried 87 passengers along with the hijackers when it struck the North Building of the World Trade Center at approximately 8:46 a.m. Around 10:28 am the building collapsed due to the structural failure.

Transition to subpoint 2:
No one knew that 3 more planes were also hijacked and were set out purely for destruction.

The second was the United Airlines flight 175 that was hijacked which had the same intended path as of flight AA 11, which was from Boston, Massachusetts to Los Angeles, California.
The flight carried 56 passengers and the hijackers. After the first crash of flight AA 11 into the North Tower, and within less than 15 minutes, the flight UA 175, speeding at 600 miles/hour crashed into the South Tower of the World Trade Center, leaving the United States in a state of shock.

News channels and other media were showing the impact of the first flight and suddenly the second plane crashed into the south tower, in which thousands of Americans saw live on television.

The South Tower collapsed earlier than the North Tower, and by the time it was 10:30 am, both the towers did not exist in the New York City.

Transition to subpoint 3:
The remaining 2 planes that were aimed to do mass destruction, were set for other targets and not the New York City. One of the planes successfully reached its target, but the other plane was crashed earlier than its target.
The third plane was the American Flight AA 77, which was intended to reach Washington DC. The hijackers managed to crash the plane at their target, which was the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. This incident took place around 9:37 am and all the 59 passengers along with the hijackers were dead on the spot.
Flight UA 93 was the last hijacked flight, with their final target to demolish the White House. This flight had the same route as of Flight AA 77, to Washington DC. When the passengers on board knew about the 3 hijackings, they immediately teamed up to refrain the terrorists from attacking the White House. In an attempt to hold the steering column while fighting with the terrorists, the airplane crashed somewhere in the fields of Shanksville, Pennsylvania. All passengers and terrorists were found dead.
But this act of the citizens is considered as an act of heroism, as they never of themselves but instead for the nation. I salute them for their bravery.

Conclusion: Review of main points:
On September 11, 2001; the United States of America witnessed a horrifying terrorist attack that took lives of nearly 3000 innocent people. This attack was believed to be as a response to the presence of the US Army near the Saudi Arabia Kingdom and the support of Israel by the United States.
3 out of 4 planes reached their target for devastation. These attacks have developed a deep wound in the hearts of the people, with too much pain and sorrow.
However, a tribute to those passengers who averted the 4th airplane from its intended target, that shows a symbol of patriotism of the Americans. Also, a tribute to the rescue teams and the police officials that sacrificed their lives in the line of duty and will always be remembered for that.
