Educate Together Schools started with a group of parents and educationalists. They started an organisation to help support the establishment of multi-dimensional schools in Ireland. (Educate Together,2014). There is 82 primary Educate Together Schools in the world. Educate Together Schools focus on being child centred and to also have the best educational outcomes for each child. (Educate Together,2014). Teachers help to encourage children to engage with the practitioner and to engage with other children. They tend to focus on the four principles such as child centred, equality-based, co-educational and democratically run. Educate Together Schools also provides the learn together ethical education curriculum. There are four parts in this curriculum including equality and justice, moral and spiritual, belief system and ethics and the environment. (Educate Together,2014).
Educate Together is based on the vision of equality education for all children in Ireland. Parents want their children educated in a place of equality. (Educate Together,2014). It is important in Ireland, so every child can be treated equal such as children from different backgrounds.
Educate Together embraces inclusiveness in special educational needs. Educate Together Schools make sure that all children regardless of their religious, cultural and social background are taught and treated with equality. A special educational need is one that can be physical or to do with your background and the area you live in. (Meegan,MacPhil,2006) Each child is to be educated to a certain degree and should be treated equal. It was stated that all children regardless of their disabilities and educational needs should be brought into regular education to embrace inclusiveness. (Meegan,MacPhil,2006) Educate Together embraces inclusion for children with special needs and states that support should be brought to the child such as extra help like SNA. The children with special educational needs should be treated fairly and have the same opportunities as all the other children. (Meegan,MacPhil,2006). Through inclusion programmes children can all be in the same classroom regardless of their abilities because it designs the classroom to fit the children’s needs. An inclusion school is best described by stanback. They describe it as a place where all children are accepted and are also supported by everyone while having their educational needs met. (Meegan,MacPhil,2006). The CECDE considers the needs of children who are at a disadvantage and also children who have special needs. The main thing the CECDE started with was a project to audit the provision of services for children who are at a disadvantage or who have special needs from birth to six years. (CECDE,2006). The report is looking for data that is righteous for the development of policy and provision. It wants to target the disadvantage of special needs. The main findings were to do with ECCE services targeting disadvantage and how it’s difficult to access. (CECDE,2006). The findings from the project show that there needs to be improvements in certain areas. The CECDE has recommended co-operation with government departments to develop a “national protocol for targeted interventions, incorporating agreed indicators, criteria and child centred quality objectives. (CECDE,2006piv). Government departments need to consult with stakeholders such as parents and practitioners to help develop an ECCE strategy. Overall Educate Together Schools embrace inclusiveness for all children with special needs by allowing all children regardless of their educational needs be in the same classroom and by providing extra help such as SNA’s. (CECDE,2006).
Educate Together Schools embrace inclusiveness in it’s approach to stakeholder involvement. Parental involvement is very important in a child’s early care and education so that they can work in partnership with the childcare practitioners. (Barnardos,2010). This is very important in helping children to feel happy and safe in their childcare setting. The first step in developing a partnership is finding a good childcare facility that provides for your child’s basic emotional, social, intellectual and physical development, which is dependent on caring relationships that the children experience in their early years. (Barnardos,2010). Children who attend quality childcare settings that are caring and nurturing where parents and the staff work together is beneficial for the child because they are more prepared for school and they also have fewer emotional difficulties. (Barnardos,2010). Educate Together Schools show how important it is for stakeholder inclusion through partnership between parents and practitioners. It is very important that your child get’s opportunities to play and to also build relationships with their childcare practitioners. These relationships are very important for happiness and well-being in the setting. There are three people in partnership the parent, the practitioner and the child. (Barnardos,2010). It’s very beneficial for all three parties to work together because parents can help practitioners by telling them about their child such as Their likes and dislikes. The childcare practitioner maybe aware of developments or things that the child is developing in. The child can express their own opinions and ideas of they want to do. Parents and practitioners are very important in supporting children to play freely. Play allows children to learn about the give and take in relationships. (Barnardos,2010). It’s very important to have good communication between parents and practitioners but this is often hard as both parents and practitioners are busy, so they might only see each other during drop offs and pickups. (Mac Naughtan,Hughes,20000. Practitioners should have a schedule which allows them time to interact with parents. Parents as partners in early childhood services in Ireland: an exploratory study found that many parents wanted to be involved with their children in the early childhood programme but found it very difficult because of time and work. Many of the parents found that the staff had no spare time to interact with them no time to develop a partnership with them. (Mac Naughtan,Hughes,2000). Slyvia Et Al took on a study of children between the ages of 3 and 7 to find out and access their development. It found that parents who were in partnership with the practitioner created a home environment which had a positive effect on the child making them more confident and sociable. (Mac Naughtan,Hughes,2000) Educate Together schools have embraced inclusiveness with stakeholders through partnership.
Educate Together Schools embrace inclusiveness in curriculum by using Aistear the early years curriculum framework. Aistear is based on 12 principles for children’s learning such as the child’s uniqueness, children’s connections and how children learn and develop etc. Aistear has four main themes well-being, identity and belonging, communicating and thinking and exploring. (Aistear,2009). The themes are used to help adults to think of ideas and learning experiences that might help children in learning and achieving the aims of Aistear’s curriculum. Well-being children will become creative and spiritual. That children will be able to express themselves freely and creativity through play and art. Children will learn how to make their own decisions and be more independent. It shows toddlers that they can do things by themselves and how to do them. (Aistear,2009). For example, caring and nurturing a plant. Getting the children to grow their own plants and teaching them how to care for them.
