CCI had only 100 people in attendance on the first one-day event held in 1970. Since then, the number of attendees increased year-to-year, with over 167,000 people in attendance in 2015 (ComicCon International). CCI has sold out of all attendance packages since 2008, making tickets extremely sought after and making them much more expensive on ticket reselling websites.
W.W. ComicCon had around 2,000 attendees at the first Chicago show, with the number varying slightly over the next few years. The last reported attendance was 90,000 people in 2009, though they estimated around 125,000 attendees in 2016. Overall, W.W. ComicCon predicted around 30,000 attendees at shows around the country in 2016, with the number growing based on the size of the city. The overall estimated number of guests in 2016 was 855,000 across 18 cities, with the majority of attendees in Philadelphia (100,000) and Chicago (125,000) (Wizard World).
In 2015, the first year of DragCon in Los Angeles, there were over 15,000 people in attendance. That number has since tripled with over 50,000 people attending the most recent DragCon in Los Angeles. Total attendance at both locations (Los Angeles and New York City) for DragCon2017 was over 70,000 people, and that number is expected to continue to grow.
