At times health and safety, risk management and procedures and practices are not always adhered to or complied with. If this happens then action needs to be taken immediately. If a member of staff was not adhering to or complying I would sit down with the member of staff and talk with them about the matter, I would ask them if they felt they needed further training or if they did not understand the policies and procedures. If they required further training I would make sure they were given the opportunity to attend this training. I would also provide more supervisions with them to ensure that they understood what was expected of them and that they were following the policies and procedures correctly. If they still were not complying then I would have to look at implementing the disciplinary procedure. If non-compliance of policies and procedures was through a resident or visitor I would speak to them and offer advice whilst reminding them about health and safety. I would also offer them support if they felt it was needed. If there was failure to comply or adhere to policies and procedures I need to ensure that I record it factually.
To ensure staff comply with policies and procedures, in our organisation it is their responsibility to put risk assessments for residents in place. As a keyworker they have to ensure that the risk assessments are updated every 3 months or earlier if there are any changes. The risk assessments are then audited by the senior of the unit to ensure that they are factual and correct. Risk assessments for the building are put in place by management, maintenance team and our fire warden. They are regularly reviewed and updated when needed. All staff within the building have a responsibility to report any health and safety concerns that they find.

When a health and safety issue is found it is the duty managers job to report this via our computer system to the maintenance team. If it is urgent the duty manager will phone the maintenance team and ask them to urgently deal with the issue. Once the job has been reported we are provided with a reference number and this is written along with the issue into our maintenance folder in our main reception. A member of the maintenance team will access the issue and ensure that the correct steps are taken to minimise any further risk and fix the problem.
