Around the world there are multiple amounts of sex and human trafficking. There are some scenarios where people are being trafficked, moved around, even from country to country. Sex trafficking is basically a process of economic principle concerning supply and demand. Sex trafficking in modern day society is a strong form of slavery, which involves illegal smuggling and the trading of human beings. There is an estimate of 17,500 people from the United States who are victims of human trafficking. According to the global report, “the most common form of human trafficking is sexual exploitation. The victims of sexual exploitation are largely women and girls.” There are mainly women and children being trafficked for their bodies. Many people believe that the topic of sex and human trafficking is strongly related to the topic of slavery. There are a number of things the two have in common. Age doesn’t seem to be a significant factor in determining who is more likely to become a victim of sex/ human trafficking. On the other hand, most of the victims are adult women and minors, mostly girls younger than 17 years old. The human trafficking operators are primarily operated by both males and females. It is uncommon for the operators to not know their victims. There are two large matters of human trafficking. There is a demand from people who wish to be brought from one place to another. Then there’s a demand from people who wish to exploit others. This commonly takes place when a person is underprivileged and wants to find a better life in a richer area. They often pay people to smuggle them to enter the richer area. For example, in the Sarah Baartman film, she wanted to find a better and wealthier life. Therefore, she left her country to enter another for a better way in life. Instead, she was caught into a human trafficking ring. She was used and thrown from country to country for sexual displaying. It is important to know that in some cases where victims are promised a better life, some may at first consent to traveling to a better area, others may pay for the fraudulent documents in order to reach the desired country. However, the victims don’t consent to exploitation and forced labor. In many cases the victims are recruited, in some the victims are abducted. The power and control of the victims are the key to a successful trafficking project. Violence is also the answer when the victims aren’t obeying the operator. The fear of deportation is another way to maintain the order in the operation. Sex trafficking is one of the most awful human rights matter of our lifetime. Human trafficking is the illegal sale of individuals for the project of the reproductive of slavery, forced work labor, and sexual exploitation. Slavery is the system in which people are treated as if they are property and are forced to work. The resemblance of the two is that not much was or is being done to end the two. Slavery-like practices can be found in sex trafficking situations, including servitude, forced labor, and forced marriage. Enslaved africans resisted or rebelled against their position as slaves in many different ways. Many of the slaves in the early centuries were tired of being used, abused, and treated like they weren’t human. Therefore, many of the slaves committed rellionism. They started to runaway, not listen to their masters, or could perform small, daily acts of rebellion, such as slowing down at work. Running away was difficult, the slaves had to leave behind family and risk harsh punishments, even death. Further more, the trafficker where leaving to become united with their families. They would then risk being killed or sent to prison for being in that country illegal. In addition to the physical violence against themselves, victims also are putting their family in harm or even murder, if they try to run away and tell anyone about what happened to them. These scenarios create great fear and bondage that allows them to remain enslaved with the traffickers. Slaves owners had to rely on natural increase in the slave population to increase their labor force. On the other hand, sex trafficker have to rely on themselves to expand labor and their economics. They have to go out and recruit more young children or adults in order for them to expand force labor.Across the world, many traffickers purchase and sell children. When the child is finally out of the trafficking ring, the child is all alone. The court will send the child into the foster system. This is bad for the child because they are still young and need their parent(s)/ family members in their life. This foster care will help the child recover and adapt to life back in their home country. The separation of the families during slavery was very sad. Many families were broken when someone from the family had to runaway or be brought from other slave owners. In some areas, africans were taken from their homes and forced into slavery, some were separated from their parents. Many people around the world are brought into trafficking in many ways. They can be brought in by being lured with offers of legitimate or legal jobs. The victims are transported in large number sometimes. Others are promised a marriage, education, or a better life economically. Many are sold to be trafficked by mothers, fathers, boyfriends, friends, or neighbors. Many of the victims are passed among a great amount of traffickers. On the other hand, this is similar to the the way many slaves traveled. Many of the slaves had to travel in the middle passage. The slaves were restrained with shackles. The area they were in had little ventilation and not even enough space to store the buckets for human waste. There was 300- 400 people packed in a tiny area. The transportation of slaves isn’t as servir as the transportation of today’s trafficking systems. Currently, there is many auctions in Libya. According to CNN, ” published a report on modern slavery in Libya, reportedly was shot in August and appeared to show a man selling African migrants for farm work. The men were sold for about $400 each, CNN reported. The government says it’s investigating the auctions in this country.” In Libya, migrants have become particularly vulnerable to human trafficking. Many of the migrants were fleeing because of poverty and conflict in their country. During trafficking many people bought young girls and women for the use of their bodies. Sometimes, they trafficked people to work for them, which is forced labor. Some of the traffic conductor tattoo their name on the victims. This tattoo will live on the victim for years, reminding them of what they had to go through in human/sex trafficking. In similarity, during slavery, slave owners bought women for the use of their body and for the use of force labor. Many of the slaves gave birth to the owners child. This leaves a mark in the women life, reminding her that she gave birth to a child who has a slave master as a father. According to the article of ethical issues and arguments, ” The United Nations Protocol to Prevent Suppress, and Punish Trafficking in Persons or the Palermo Protocol define human trafficking as ” the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons, by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation.” This is basically bring awareness to the people that there are laws and rules against the exploitation of human beings. All of these factors are very similar to the way slavery works. There was a source found about a teenage girl by the name of Cyntoia Brown, being brought into the trafficking circle at a very young age. She was sentenced to life in prison because she fought back her attacker and killed the man who bought her. When she was only 16 years old, Cyntoia Brown was being sex-trafficked by a pimp named Kutthroat. She was being abused in every way, shape and form. From being verbal abuse to sexual abuse. She was arrested as result of the murder, tried and convicted as an adult and sentenced to life in prison. She will be eligible for parole when she is 69 years old. While in prison, Cyntoia earned her associates degree from Lipscomb University. She is currently working towards her bachelor’s degree. The court case of Brown v. State, states “The nude victim was lying face down on the bed in a large pool of blood, and his “hands were beneath his face, his fingers kind of partially interlocked,” as if he had been sleeping. An autopsy revealed that he had been shot in the back of the head and that he did not have any defense wounds.” During court, Cyntoia was tried as an adult a the age of 16, and the jury rejected her claim of self defense, finding her not innocent for the first degree murder of Johnny Allen.During my interview for sex trafficking, my interviewee had valid answers to all my questions. He believes that the definition of human trafficking is the taking of another human being against their well, to be forced to work or sexual preference. As do many people, he believes that the the most common human trafficking is the ones that involve drug usage, forced labor, and sex. He believes that sex trafficking is terrible. He thinks that it should be looked into more and investigated so that it can be prevented in some countries. He lives in the New York State and hasn’t heard much about the topic of sex trafficking or human trafficking. Sex trafficking does target a certain demographic area, because there are mostly women and young females in the trafficking ring. He also believes that human trafficking is very much similar to slavery. They both share the same characteristics and details. They are both keeping innocent humans against their will. They are both using force and violence to maintain their traffickers or slaves. He isn’t sure if there is trafficking occuring in New York because the officials don’t display anything about trafficking on the news. He has seen many sign, jobs, and opportunities the traffickers display in order to bring in more victims.During my interview, the interviewee seemed to be bothered talking about this topic. He seem to be in shock that nobody such as the news, magazines, or police, have brought sex trafficking to people’s attention more. The topic seem to be surprising to talk about for my interviewee. He lastly, believes that there should be more awareness to the world about the sex trafficking topic, in order for more people to grasp more knowledge about it.Some people suggest that the efforts to stop sex/human trafficking should focus more on the people who supply victims and the people who purchase them. There should be more funding going towards the training of the police to spot these crimes and more should be done in order to increase the punishment for the people who are trafficking these innocent people. According to the law against trafficking, ” Any person who sells or buys a human being can receive a sentence of 20 years in prison, or life in prison if the victim dies i result of the torture endured at the hands of either the supplier or consumer.” Anyone who commits the crime should be punished in result. The United States is among many countries who have taken action against human trafficking. The United States are the leaders who are forcing other countries to do the same in their country. Millions of innocent people, including children fall in the victim category to this crime each year. This is a crime that doesn’t discriminate, the victims are from many ages, ethnicity, gender, and race. However most of the victims are females and children. The crime comes from the lack of political and economic stability. There are many sex trafficking hotlines people use to help and prevent sex trafficking. Sex/human trafficking is a very serious topic and the awareness should be spread around the world, especially in the United States. It is important to know about this because there are many signs and posts around the U.S to draw in more traffic victims, such as job opportunities and better life values.
