Aging to obtain a specific health objective. This

Aging is a constant motif of interest for human beings, and this has become evident throughout history in multiple edges of knowledge and the making of humanity. The development of sciences and the development of health sciences has resulted in a substantial increase in the proportion of the elderly, which is expressed through the concept of population aging. This stage of life is a normal physiological process to which all living organisms are exposed from the moment of conception. It predisposes the individual to the appearance of diseases and consumption of medications.
The medicine is possibly the most used therapeutic resource in the health field, since most of the interventions, both preventive and curative, in this medium include the use of a drug as an intermediary mechanism to obtain a specific health objective. This implies that the population has been, is or will be exposed to a greater or lesser extent to the beneficial effects, and to the risks, that the use of any medication entails.
According to the Population Reference Bureau (2016), the number of Americans ages 65 and older is projected to more than double from 46 million today to over 98 million by 2060. The life expectancy is 79 years, and more than 27% of adults over 65 live alone, which becomes a great risk for those who need to follow pharmacological treatments involving multiple medications.
Polypharmacy is an important public health problem. When people age 65 or older, they have the possibility of suffering from disabilities and multiple pathologies, which may be more difficult at that age, since it increases the appearance of problems related to medication that compromise the therapeutic treatment and interfere real or potentially, with the desired results (Lavan, Gallagher, & O’Mahony,2016).
